Merger studies waste of money

ASBURY PARK PRESS EDITORIAL

Assemblyman Joseph Cryan, D-Union, told parents in Monmouth County last week he got the message that they were unhappy with the state's push to consolidate school districts. He should take that message back to Gov. Jon Corzine and tell him to scrap plans to conduct 127 feasibility studies on proposed school mergers.

Many small towns in the State of New Jersey have worked hard over the years to build schools that serve the best interest of their communities...  Schools that reflect their values and traditions while providing quality education balanced with fiscal responsibility.

Governor Corzine and the State Legislature are trying to impose a "one size fits all" approach to educating our children in the misguided hope that it will control costs.

C.A.R.E. does not oppose regionalization in all cases, but in our towns where we have outstanding test results, administrators committed to controlling costs and parents and citizens highly involved in the schools, it just does not make sense.
